Are you living life or is life living you?
Let’s face it, too often we are simply going through the motions.
We wake up, have our coffee, and then we go through the daily routine without any thought or planning. We are letting life happen to us instead of living intentionally.
While each individual day may seem long, weeks and months seem to fly by.
Ever find yourself saying “we’re in December already, where did the year go?”
This is a chronic condition of simply going through the motions. Living without purpose or intent. But don’t worry, living intentionally can help combat this. We’re here with 10 tips to live more intentionally and to stop living life by just going through the motions!
Cambridge defines it as “to do something withoutthinking it is veryimportant or having muchinterest in it.” Think about that for a second! As this pertains to life, most of us are going through life without thinking it is very important or having much interest in it. The most precious thing we have is life. And we’re simply going through the motions of life instead of living it to the fullest.
We often view the day as a chore or something “to get through” and so we get caught in this cycle of going through the motions. Instead we should learn to appreciate each day that we have and aim to fill it. Learn to enjoy it. And live more intentionally.
Living intentionally really falls into two main categories. The first is actually planning out your days and life and focusing on living within these plans. The second is living in the present moment which helps accomplish the first. When you actually live in the present moment and are fully present and aware, every action you take becomes intentional, instead of letting your subconscious run your life. You become actively in charge of your life. You become the captain. You live intentionally.
When you live your life with intent, you are able to focus more on yourpersonal development, your goals, and your growth. Goals and growth don’t happen on their own. We have to take deliberate actions to make them happen. So by living intentionally, we become more aware of our actions and how they relate to our goals.
It’s no secret, that when we grow as individuals, we live a happier life. Living in the present moment breaks us out of the monotony of daily life and creates a life of purpose. We learn to enjoy each moment and can actually appreciate what is happening around us.
How can you intend to live intentionally if you don’t have a plan to live by? You can’t simply expect life to fall into order for you. Take 10 minutes every night to plan out your next day. Take 30 minutes every Sunday to plan out what you want to accomplish that week. And keep a high level plan of your month. By putting things down on paper, you are more able to accomplish them and live an intentional life.
Trying to pack 9,000 things into a day will only be counter productive. Know what you’re actually able to accomplish, plan according, and adjust day to day.
Create A Morning Routine
Starting your day off on the right foot and with intention is probably the most important of all of the tips. Create a morning routine, start off by making your bed so that you start the day with a success and productivity. Then create your own routine from there. Something to prime you for your daily plan.
Practice Meditation & Mindfulness
Meditation and mindfulness have been scientifically proven to improve focus, reduce stress, and help you live in the moment. Remember, meditation isn’t something to be good at, it’s a practice. It’s ok to struggle, the important part is that you practice. 10 minutes a day is all it takes.
Pause And Take A Deep Breath
Find yourself in the middle of the day stressed out, running around, or off your daily plan? Stop. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Hold it for 10 seconds. Let it go. This alone can change your physiology.
